Land Bridge

Sculptor (American, born 1947)
1975-1976

Larry Michael "Mike" Calligan received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art and sculpture from the University of Michigan and a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1978. While a student at Cranbrook, Melvyn and Sara Smith befriended him. The Smiths supported the young artist by offering paid maintenance projects around the house. They also purchased three large-scale steel sculptures for Myhaven's grounds. In 1999, after the passing of Melvyn Smith, Sara Smith and her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Anne Smith, asked the artist to fabricate a new gate to Frank Lloyd Wright's design.
