Saarinen House

About

Cultural Properties Collection, Saarinen House consists of objects that are part of the built environment or were acquired, created, collected, or commissioned by Eliel Saarinen or Loja Saarinen, or their daughter Pipsan Saarinen Swanson, son Eero Saarinen, or son-in-law J. Robert F. Swanson, for purposes of use or exhibit within or on the grounds of Saarinen House. This collection includes the personal effects of the Saarinens, including, but not limited to, surviving clothing, jewelry, and accessories with an emphasis on the period Eliel and Loja Saarinen lived in Saarinen House together (1930 to 1950). This collection also includes items acquired or created for the interpretation of Saarinen House as a public house museum (1994 to present), including objects that help to interpret the residencies of Saarinen House’s subsequent residents (1951 to 1990). The Saarinen House Cultural Properties Collection currently does not include works housed in Saarinen House that are part of the permanent collection of Cranbrook Art Museum.
